Window Treatments Measuring Tips

The 4” Rule For Measuring Top Treatments
1. Your top treatment should be 4” wider than the bracket to bracket measurement of the face width of your drapery.
2. If you are covering hard window coverings and it is an outside mount, your top treatment should be 4” wider than the face width of the product you are covering.
3. Your top treatment projection should not be less than 4”.

4 Step Measuring Drapery Process
1. Measure window width with a steel measuring tape.

2. Determine rod placement.
A. Distance out past window
B. Wall to Wall

3. Determine drapery hardware to be used.
A. How far above window should hardware be placed?
B. Determine return size needed

4. Measure for drapery length.
A. Apron length.
B. Floor length.
C. Ceiling to floor.
D. Allow for floor clearance.

3 Step Measuring Bedcovering
1. Measure the mattress r box spring from cord to cord.
2. Measure the length of the mattress or box spring from cord to cord.
3. Measure from the cording on the top edge of the mattress or box spring to the floor and deduct 1” for the correct drop. For a comforter, measures for desired length but at least 2” below where the mattress and box springs meet.
